A Food Recovery Act is being presented by Chellie Pingree to the United States congress. The bill will aim to reduce food waste across the United States, and it is hoped that the bill is a landmark moment for economic and environmental practices in US history.
The bill addresses consumer level waste, industrial agricultural waste, institutions, and schools. Support will be provided to both farms, food recovery organizations, and business owners. Food labels that are currently misleading for indicating best before and expiry dates will be clarified. The press announcement took place this morning in Portland, Maine.
